Palermo’s most popular getaway, Mondello (its full name is Partanna-Mondello) follows a long sandy beach beneath the northern flanks of Monte Pellegrino. The rocky, forested bluffs of the mountain and the headlands of Capo Gallo at the northern of the beach lend the town a sense of remote beauty, the fishing harbor and little lanes that wind around a medieval clock tower provide the atmosphere of a small Mediterranean fishing village. The town is liveliest in the evening, when Palermitani come out to Mondello for a seaside passeggiata and a meal in the town’s many fish restaurants.
