Caltabellotta, a small mountain village that clings to three rocky promontories high in the mountains above Sciatica, played an important role in Sicilian history. In its now ruined castle, Charles of Valois and Frederick of Aragon signed the treaty that ended the 13th century revolt against French rule known as the War of the Vespers.
